Meme of the Year 2006
Dec. 18th, 2006 03:55 pm1. What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before?
I got dumped! :D It wasn’t as bad as I’d expected, and I am much happier with [ LJ User: zorac ] as a friend than I was in the last few months of our relationship. So that’s good. :D
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t do resolutions really, although next year I am having vague suggestions to myself that I might want to pull my socks up and do something towards having a social life.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nobody close, no.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope.
5. What countries did you visit?
America! And that’s it! Unless we count Scotland. Do we?
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
More money! Money is good! You can buy things!
7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Um. 24th of March! I went to Disney World. Funnily enough, am there going ”and I think it was about the first of may, ish, that I got dumped?” That weekend, certainly.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I got through my first break up (tm) without really getting anywhere near depressed and managed to get a really good friendship out of it. Um, I also got a HNC but that wasn’t really an achievement. Just an enevitability.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Stopping. I got a huge burst of energy after being dumped, because if I didn’t stop, it wouldn’t hurt.
Unfortunately, once I did stop, I just couldn’t get started again. *lounges in bed* I will get up! I will!
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
The usual assortment of colds and bugs. Bleugh.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My trip to Disney World was awesome. It was truly the best holiday ever. And my new laptop is lovely. And also, Young Person’s Railcards are still good.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
[ LJ User: owlman ]. He’s not always there when you want him, he’s frequently a git when he is, but he was there when I needed him.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I don’t think I really want to talk about this.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Train tickets, disney, laptop, random crap.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
DISNEY DISNEY DISNEY DISNEY! Also, PHOENIX RISING! EEE!
16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
I suspect it might have to be ”PRETTY GOOD, SHOW US YER BALLS!” from Splash Mountain. :D
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Happier.
ii. thinner or fatter?
About the same, really.
iii. richer or poorer?
Poorer. *pets laptop*
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Being sociable really, or actually getting driving lessons. I promised my self I’d do better at having a life here, rather than just living here, and I’ve kind of failed at that.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
It was all pretty necessary really. I’m kind of recharging my batteries from last year. I still really appreciate having weekends with nothing to do. :D
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I’m going to my grans, and spending the rest of the time lying around. I will start plotting whether there’s any fun to be had for new year later.
21. Did you fall in love in 2006?
Nah. I am in a happy asexual bubble. :D
22. How many one-night stands?
Still none. Pah. Must do better! :D
23. What was your favorite TV program?
HOUSE! HOUSE! HOUSE! Although, just sneaking in at the moment, Heroes is pretty darn good, but because I loved it first, HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE! :D :D :D
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Not really. I’ve fairly recently got to the point where I decided that I didn’t want that toxic serpent of hatred coiling inside of me, even if I do feel it’s justified. I’m getting rid of it gradually, and getting happier.
25. What was the best book you read?
I haven’t really read much this year. I played on my gameboy instead.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Oh, loads of stuff. Elliot Smith ’From A Basement on a Hill’ is beautiful. I like The Dead 60s. The Arctic Monkeys get stuck in my head from time to time. I also kind of started to appreciate Pulp and well... I keep meaning to upload some songs, but I am lazy.
27. What did you want and get?
LAPTOP!
28. What did you want and not get?
Um. I don’t think there’s anything really. :)
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
I loved it. Ok, I was actually excited by it because, it promised to make Pirates into an epic tril- ogy. The first film was good, it was self contained, it was tight, it was an introduction to the world and to the characters. But it didn’t have the same epic quality as this film. I am really eager to see the third film, because I want to see how it ends and whether they do it justice or not.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 20! I have a feeling I was at [ LJ User: zorac ]’s for the weekend, wibbling as he got dragged to London on work business. *guilt trips* >:D >:D >:D
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having a better network of friends to fall back on. I’m kind of alone now. :(
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Grey. Lots of grey. Grey trousers, grey cardigans, grey jumpers and muted long sleeve t-shirts. :D
33. What kept you sane?
I’ve discovered I’m actually a pretty sane person. I don’t really need anything or anyone to keep me sane. That’s kind of good. :D
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
DITA VON TEESE!
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
I don’t recall being stirred. Shaken, perhaps...:P That said, I nearly did a rant about the veil issue, but decided not to bother.
36. Who did you miss?
Seeing people. I have not seen many people so much. :(
37. Who was the best new person you met?
Do you know, I can’t honestly remember who I’ve met newly. Oh! I know! [ LJ User: longtimegone ]! She was very nice. Liked her.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
Anger is good for building backbones, you just have to squish it up and push it to the back of you. It will keep you strong like nothing else.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Everyone’s a little bit unsatisfied. Everyone goes ’round a little empty inside.
Take a breath,Look around, Swallow your pride,
FOr now... For now...
Nothing lasts,Life goes on,
Full of surprises.
You’ll be faced with problems of all shapes and sizes. You’re going to have to make a few compromises...
For now...
For now...
But only for now! (For now)
Only for now! Only for now! Only for now!
(For now) (For now)
For now we’re For now we’re For now we’re
If not overjoyed.
healthy. employed. happy...
And we’ll accept the things we cannot avoid, for now...
But only for now! (For now) Only for now! (For now) Only for now! (For now) Only for now!
Only for now!
(For now there’s life!)
Only for now!
(For now there’s love!)
Only for now!
(For now there’s work!)
For now there’s happiness! But only for now!
(For now discomfort!)
Only for now!
(For now there’s friendship!) Only for now (For now!) Only for now!
Only for now! (Sex!)
Is only for now! (Your hair!)
Is only for now! (George Bush!) Is only for now!
Don’t stress,
Relax,
Let life roll off your backs
Except for death and paying taxes, Everything in life is only for now!
’For Now’-Avenue Q, because it’s true, it’s like your life, but funnier.
And it’s a wonderful piece of commentary on that rather nebulous phase in your early twenties when you’re an adult for the first time and discovering what the rest of your life is going to be like.
