1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?

Not sure. I went to a Harry Potter convention, I did really well in exams, but really, it’s been a very unremarkable year as far as life goes really. I just pootled on as normal.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I did completely fail at having anything vaguely resembling a social life. I do also hope to do better at that next year, but generally I just hope that 2008 makes me happier. I’m not really resolved to do anything about it though, so it’s my own fault.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Nope.

5. What countries did you visit?

I went to America (New Orleans), Italy (Milan), and Poland (Krakow). Quite a lot of adventures really. :D

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

A contract. It’s really important because then I can have the other thing I want, a mortgage. Well...I want a house. And I want it to be near Leeds so I can say ”Yes.” when people go ”Want to have dinner/drinkies with us?” rather than ”Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee....what time? I need to get on a train early.”

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

The fact that none of them have suggests that none will. Perhaps the 21st of July as the release date of the last Harry Potter book. The reading was fun, even if the book was a gigantic pile of pooh sticks.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Ah, not really achieved much either. *scratches head* I am refusing to be be self pitying about this, so I shall think of something. Let’s say ’no longer being considered a lazy git at work’. Which is actually impressive, as any of you who have had to try to turn around a reputation will know.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Letting myself get so worked up about things. Getting to the point that I put my mental health in danger over a pointless hatred and a vexation with a business I should have been able to distance myself from. I shall try to be more zen!

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Colds and tumbly bugs and general malais on occasion. I was doing really well but my immune system seem to have taken christmas off. COME BACK! I NEED YOU!

11. What was the best thing you bought?

I am really fond of my phone. It’s super super sexy! Also, train and plane tickets are always worthwhile expenditures. It usually means I’m going to have a good time. And having a good time is nice. :D

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Let’s see, I have a particular gratitude for [ LJ User: jiggery pokery ] and [ LJ User: dezzikitty ] this year, and I’m not entirely sure how to articulate it. I mean, of course they’re lovely and that goes without saying, but they’ve just been particularly and peculiarly there this year, so thank you guys! I’m also glad I’ve had [ LJ User: malachan ] and [ LJ User: owlman ] around. [ LJ User: zorac ] probably comes out around about even. He’s been very good and put up with a lot from me, but I think celebrating him would be taking it too far.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

I rather think most of you know the answer to this. Maybe it it shouldn’t have, but really, between them, they destroyed me.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Milan, Phoenix Rising, Poland, random crap.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Not a lot really. Phoenix Rising, I suppose. Certainly the aquarium.  Aquariums. Oh, I know, SPICE GIRLS!page1799image7962080

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

”I Can’t Decide” by the Scissor Sisters. It’s awesome and fun and seems to be on my iPod a LOT.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?

Probably sadder. But I’m betting better.

ii. thinner or fatter?

Thinner. Largely accidentally.

iii. richer or poorer?

Richer but it’s mostly earmarked for house moving.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Talking to people. Exercising. Reading. Anything. I’ve been so stupidly lazy this year.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Lying around in bed watching random crap on youtube. Oh dear. Right now I wish I spent less time being ill. Oh, and being drunk. I haven’t drunk anything in months, but when I do drink, I shouldn’t consume quite so much alcohol.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

sniff sniff sniff* My insane Grandmother is coming over and she will spend all day asking me to confirm everything I just said. My aunt will get drunk. My grandfather will sit looking baffled by the whole proceedings and it will be hell. Worse still, it’s her golden wedding anniversary the next day, so we have to go over to hers for more insanity. IT’S GOING TO SUCK! I wish we were going to the house of the sane grandparents.

21. Did you fall in love in 2007?

Nah. Am really not in the market for love at the minute. I am all curled up in a warm corner of my brain and busying myself with keeping shop there.

22. How many one-night stands?

Ha. None. Sad. :(

23. What was your favorite TV program?

Boston Legal, House and Heroes are my three most torrented.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Quite the opposite, actually.I wish to announce proudly that I GOT THE FUCK OVER IT! Woot! I really don’t have a place for that whole situation in my life anymore and I am maintaining my distance from it. In doing so, I seem to be much much happier with everything and everyone in the whole wide world.

25. What was the best book you read?

I really haven’t read much. Batman has been good fun. I enjoyed ’Snakehead’. Oh, wait, I know ”Gone With The Wind”. It is truly wonderful.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?

I haven’t really discovered much this year. I still like Ok Go, Laptop, Spoon and the Scissor Sisters. They are good. I don’t really remember what music I’ve listened to.

27. What did you want and get?

I don’t know. Anything I want and can have, I tend to get immediately so don’t remember wanting it. Let’s say ”An offer of a permanent job at work” which is a good thing, even if they haven’t actually delivered it yet.

28. What did you want and not get?

There was a house I did want and had started towards getting; but that didn’t pan out. It makes me sad.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?

I’ve really liked a lot of the films that I’ve seen this year. Special places in my heart however go to ’Meet the Robinsons’ for being the most surreal thing I have ever seen. And I read White Ninja. Of course ”At World’s End” was as good as it would be expected to be. Ummmm...what else? I think that that covers it. A few other films were very good, but I think I liked those best.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I was twenty one. And *goes to look what she was up to* I did a lot of stuff! I think I went to London, and then to Long Eaton and I saw Rhianna and the Pussycat Dolls in concert. Much to my great embarrassment. I had a lot of birthday parties and great fun at each one of them and it was nice. :D

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

More people close to me. I am really hard to get to know, though, and who has the time and energy for it?

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

Looking grey and muted and scruffy. Pink seems to have largely been phased out of my wardrobe, and I am something of a drab pea hen at the moment. Brown, grey, dark blue...that sort of thing. Am trying to brighten it up as these colours make me look like a corpse.

33. What kept you sane?

What sanity? :D The people that are still around. :D I love you aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall! :D

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

DITA VON TEESE! Um. Damien Lewis is also hot. Who else? Dunno. Celebrities are not really my bag baby.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?

I do not really do politics. What’s been happening? I hate David Cameron, but for no other reason than he seems a smarmy twirp. I am glad Tony Blair’s gone. Gordon Brown is still a politician but he at least doesn’t smarm.

36. Who did you miss?

pokes [ LJ User: hanacandi ]* It can be meet up tiem soon?

37. Who was the best new person you met?

Everyone I met! That’s the people at Phoenix Rising and at Chris and Meg’s parties. They were all very lovely. :D I have to say that [ LJ User: unsymbolic ] does get to take the crown as the best though. But he beats off immensely stiff competition. You’re all lovely!

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:

Don’t set yourself up in competition against people. You’ll only upset yourself when they don’t play the game the way you would. Don’t let things which don’t affect you upset you. Pants first, then shoes.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Let’s see. It’s just a couplet from a song. In generally the whole song cannot be stretched to be relevant to the subject. I suppose there’s a bit from another song that can be applied. And wow. This write up has been as depressing as the year has been. :D

”And I need to strengthen the things that remain, It’s sad but true!”

Sad But True, Sixpence None The Richer.

”But isolation pushes you til every muscle aches, Down the only road it ever takes,
But everybody’s scared of this place,
They’re staying away,

Your little house on memory lane, If it’s your decision,
To be open about yourself,
Be careful or else,

Be careful or else,
Uncomfortable apart,
It’s all written on my chart,
And I take what’s given to me,
Most cooperatively,
I do what people say,
And lie in bed all day,
Absolutely horrified,
I hope you’re satisfied,
Isolation pushes past self-hatred, guilt and shame, To a place where suffering’s just a game,
But everybody’s scared of this place,
And staying away,
Your little house on memory lane.”

Memory Lane, Elliot Smith.

Done. Now fuck off 2007. You can go to hell. :D
