1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
I got a degree! I are so awesome. I can’t remember when I decided to move in with Rob, but if it was this year, there was that.
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn’t really make any, although I vaguely made myself promise to be better with money and to try to eat less, both of which were resounding failures.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? 4. Did anyone close to you die?
No one, fortunately.
5. What countries did you visit?
Went to Strasbourg earlier in the year (so, France), but my other holidays were UK based. The one in Torquay was actually pretty awesome. It had baby meerkats and baby penguins, if you can get more awesome than that, I’d quite like to hear about it. The one in Brighton was really nice, but wasn’t so much of a holiday.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A job/funded PhD post in Brighton so that I can move down there and eat cupcakes all the time. :D
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I suppose the nearest thing to it the August bank holiday, because Frightfest was so thoroughly awesome I will be going there next year and forever more. It was so funny and fun.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
My final year project. I worked really hard on it, and it was actually pretty awesome when I handed it in, largely because my supervisor would not have let me hand it in if it wasn’t flawless. Everyone tells me that getting a degree along side working full time is a really big achievement, but it doesn’t really feel like one. It wasn’t collossally hard work, it generally fit fairly neatly into the gaps in my life and it stopped me from being entirely bone idle. Getting a degree doesn’t feel like a huge achievement either. I am a bit ”What, like it’s hard?” about it, even though it was a bit of a drag at some times.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not getting a first. I felt that my last academic year went against me. It was clearly out to get me all the way. I hate hate hate group work. There is no phrase in the English language that I hate more than ”Get yourselves into groups.”. I have no patience for it because it is not developing team work. Team work develops when you have you own job to do, you understand it and you need imput from someone else. I work as part of a good team at work, I work as part of a good team in Research, I am shit at working as part of bad teams in University. My group were idiots and made me so angry I was pretty much incapable of doing anything other than seething for the first semester, and then my labyrinthitis made reading difficult for the second semester. But I just wanted to be able to do it without excuses. :(
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had labyrinthitis at the end of last year, and I was diagnosed with depression a couple of months ago. Am on happy tablets now and generally much, much better. If that was depression, I think I’ve been depressed on and off since I was about fourteen, so it is SO GOOD to have it under control.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Frightfest tickets! I haven’t really bought much that sticks this year. It’s largely been food and train tickets.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I think we should all celebrate the awesome [ LJ User: morganmuffle ] for her organisings of the Legally Blonde outing, that was fabulous. I also feel I shall celebrate [ LJ User: kay taylor ] for being rather awesome in general and for taking me to Frightfest. Also, [ LJ User: radinden ] because he is the most awesome thing in the entire universe and is so wonderful that words cannot express it. I frequently feel I don’t deserve him. WILL YOU ALL STOP VOMITING ALL OVER MY JOURNAL!? HONESTLY.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Um, well, actually my serotonin levels made me depressed. I am rather peeved at work for generally cocking up how it handled its finances and then cocking up how it’s fixing it. Plus, Idiot boss is an idiot.
14. Where did most of your money go? Rent, bills, food. :( Same as last year. I have no money for fun things. :( 15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Seeing Legally Blonde was super dooper awesome. I was also pretty relieved when I finished my degree and heard that it was all over and I didn’t have to do anything else. It just felt like it was all screwed up and I was glad to be free of that mess.
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
BALE OUT. NO, NO FUCK NO, WHAT DON’T YOU FUCKING UNDERSTAND? (I’M GONNA FUCKING KICK YOUR FUCKING ASS.)
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Happier! Happy tablets help. :D
ii. thinner or fatter?
Fatter. Damn you chocolate, you flighty temptress. :D
iii. richer or poorer?
Poorer! Flat is pretty damn expensive. As are bills. And train tickets. Money goes trickly away.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Tidying, exercising, that sort of thing. Although I am largely unbothered by how little of any of them I did.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Saying goodbye. It just fucking sucks.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
At my parents’ house. We were going to go up to my Grandparents’, but my sister put her knee out, so she’s coming back from France tomorrow and the snow is too bad for driving up to Scotland tomorrow. I’ll head to their house tomorrow. My house is warmer. My bedroom there is freeeeeeeeezing.
21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
More and more every day. (WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT VOMITING ON MY JOURNAL?! GRRRRRRRRRR!)
22. How many one-night stands?
None!
23. What was your favorite TV program?
House is being REALLY GOOD and surprisingly non-annoying. I loves it bigly. It really is just getting better and better now. The season premiere was really really awesome. Dexter has been so fantastic this season in a way it hasn’t been since the first season. It was really, really great. Also, ”OMG THE FINALE! :O NOOOOOO!” The Dollhouse has recently located its stops and started pulling them all out. I’ve also started to really like ’The Mentalist’. Patrick Jane is a boo.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No hate. Hate is silly.
25. What was the best book you read?
I read a lot of fantastic fanfics but not a lot of books. The best book was [ LJ User: mistful ]’s ’Demon’s Lexicon’, and the best fanfics are recced at [ LJ User: procrastarific ].
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
It will be my iPod, when I figure out where I put the bloody thing.
27. What did you want and get?
Um...I didn’t really want for anything. Having little patience, I tend to get things the minute I want them, as I don’t like waiting for things I want. I
28. What did you want and not get?
A first on my project. A PhD offer. I’ve not not got it, but I haven’t heard yet either. *waits*
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
I think ’Up’ can win, although there were plenty of lovely films I did see, but that’s the only one I can remember.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 23, and I was in Oxford at a board games convention and generally having good fun times. :D
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
MOAR MONIES.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Same as last year really, except everything getting scruffier and scruffier. It’s still jeans, t-shirts, jumpers and cardigans.
33. What kept you sane?
The pill making my hormones flat, the happy pills making me not feel miserables, and Mr Rob just being there and supporting me through all of it. (IF YOU’RE GOING TO BE SICK, DO IT IN THE TOILET.)
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Dita Von Teese is so very pretty and hot, and she’s also so cute and sweet on Twitter. Also, David Mitchell, I will hit that like the fist of an angry god.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Wanting people to STFU about the expenses scandal, it was the most boring thing on God’s green. Also, I wanted California to allow gay marriage. And I almost had opinions on quite a few things.
36. Who did you miss?
I miss seeing people, but I just don’t have the time, or actually any energy. Or money. My flat is esspensives for one person who earns not much.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
I met [ LJ User: jacqui c ] who was very lovely, and [ LJ User: kathrid ] who was very charming. Also, the lovely [ LJ User: bookwormsarah ], purveyor of fine moles. And [ LJ User: lesyeuxouverts ] was liek a very very awesome person. Oh, and I met [ LJ User: magic at mungos ], who was also nice. LOVELY PEOPLE ARE LOVELY.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
Do not upgrade your version of Ubuntu just because they tell you you can. They are trying to trick you. Also, do not get addicted to minesweeper or solitaire. People will just laugh at you.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA, BATMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
