Back once again with the ill behaviour, with the ill behaviour...
Hello! I am trying to get back into Instagram. Twitter annoys me, and now I feel like I shouldn't be on there because of the elongated musk-rat. I screen Facebook. I largely live on Tumblr and Reddit, but am sneaky sneaky hidden there.
Life is going ok, really. I like my job, I don't like being educated. Rob and I tried and failed at moving house, so are still happily and merrily where we've been for the past 12 years.
Do reach out by text if you want! I am super happy to exchange gifs and opinions on media, especially if you are of a fannish type.
Meme of the Year 2022
1. What did you do in 2022 that you'd never done before?
Nothing too startling. There’s a bunch of new stuff at work, and I hadn’t been to Chessington World of Adventures, but it wasn’t a very adventurous year.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn’t do new years resolutions last year, but I am sort of resolving (not as a new year one, but as a general life resolution) that I need to do something about my weight and fitness. Current combo is definitely not good for me.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I can remember, but they will next year! Nibling #2 is on the way! In two days I should find out the sex.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
The death that hit me like a ton of bricks this year was my Grandad. It was horrifically hard because I got to say goodbye to him, but I knew I was saying goodbye. He was himself up till the end, he knew he was going and he wanted to go, but it was hard to lose him. I miss him. I miss there being a ‘home’ in Scotland, where it was always warm, fun, happy and loving. My Gran is in a care home, and content with life, and coping well.
I was also saddened to hear of the passing of a former colleague, Tim. We were close when we worked together, although not in recent years. I couldn’t make it to the funeral, and that was a huge shame.
5. What countries did you visit?
Scotland and a couple of booze cruises to France. (Actually very nice to do a couple of weekends away there.
6. What would you like to have in 2023 that you lacked in 2022?
NO HOMEWORK! A train system that’s reliable and reasonably priced.
7. What date from 2022 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Do you know, I can’t remember any dates? I can remember the day I said goodbye to my Grandad so vividly. I can remember the funeral.
I remember the day the Queen died, and I remember that funeral.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I don’t know that I have a stand alone achievement this year, but I do feel like I am contributing at least in proportion to what they pay me at work, so that feels a lot like achievement.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I am a bit behind on my homework for a whole bunch of reasons, and I can’t seem to accelerate it.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had COVID, which wasn’t too bad. I currently have a horrific cold. courtesy of my niece, which is much much worse.
I also got diagnosed with nerve damage from either the giant teratoma growing as fast as it did, or the removal. After a steroid injection to the nerve, things are currently a lot better, even if the injection itself was definitely Not Fun.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The first class upgrade for my train journey home from Scotland after saying goodbye to my Grandad. I didn’t really accept it was the last time until I left him at the hospital, and I am so glad I didn’t need to sit in a busy train carriage trying not to cry.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Always Rob. Rob stops me from going feral.
My parents have been up and down the country like mad, helping grandparents, my sister, and generally being there for everyone.
Rob’s parents help us out a lot too.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Eurgh. Do you want to guess?
I’m not best pleased at the US Supreme Court, but I have to live with the British Government.
Also, Vladimir Putin is not the greatest idea anyone ever had.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Taking the Gremlin on adventures. We went to CBeebiesland in Alton Towers, Chessington World of Adventures (Chesneytown) and to Legoland. We’ll be going to Legoland for her birthday next year too!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Taking the Gremlin on her adventures. I really love spending time with my niece, even if she is a stubborn and demanding little madam.
I was also really excited for Glass Onion, because Knives Out has been a movie I’ve watched on repeat for the past couple of years.
16. What song will always remind you of 2022?
Let’s give this one to Cornelia Jakobs. She won Melodifestivalen with ‘Hold Me Closer’, and it did really well at Eurovision. We were rooting for her the whole time, not least because she has a tendency to climb the nearest tall woman like a tree when she wins.
Her song got a lot of airplay in our house.
Her follow up ‘Rise’ is really good too.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
I’m sadder because I’ve got a cold, but over all, I think I had a much more positive year than last year- bereavements aside.
ii. thinner or fatter?
Look over there! It’s a distraction!
iii. richer or poorer?
About the same.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I’d seen my Gran more in the latter half of the year, but trains were screwy. Like, yes, solidarity and all that, but I also want the trains to work.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
TikTok? Having a cold? I’ve not got too many regrets about how I spent my time.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
We did a Christmas with my maternal Grandma, my sister, her husband, my niece and my parents on the 17th, and then I did actual Christmas at home with the in-laws.
21. Did you fall in love in 2022?
Still got a Rob. Had this one for nearly fifteen years, and despite his best attempts, he hasn't managed to escape yet. (<3)
22. What was the best thing you made?
I’d been working on a knitted Nativity for my Gran for the past … years, and I got finished enough to send most of it up to her. I’m now missing one king, three gifts from the magi, and some sheep for the shepherds.
It’s very bitty, doesn’t travel well, and takes a lot of thinking, so it’s my favourite type of knitting.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
I love the 1990s Addams Family films, and I love murder mysteries, so of course I was EXCITED for ‘Wednesday’,but alas, it didn’t really live up to my expectations.
I enjoy TaskMaster, etc.
The main thing that has been talked about in our house was the Youtube/Nebula series ‘Jet Lag: The Game’. Good fun strategy to talk about.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I’m just tired.
25. What was the best book you read?
I actually read some books this year! I enjoyed ‘How to Kill Your Family’ by Bella Mackie, but the main one that really left me going ‘This is why books!’ Was ‘Nettle and Bone’ by Ursula Vernon.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I don’t really discover music. That’s what a Rob’s for. My Spotify Unwrapped was very ‘musicals, Taylor Swift, some angry country, and some braggadocios artists, like Lizzo’.
27. What did you want and get?
I replaced my iPad, as it had been annoying me with the lack of storage. I got news of an impending new baby to cuddle.
28. What did you want and not get?
Immortal grandparents.
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
I gave in and paid money to watch ‘No Way Home’, and that was really good. I enjoyed ‘Glass Onion’ so much, even if it’s not as good or neat as ‘Knives Out’.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 36. My parents came down to visit and we went on adventures round Chichester and to Amberly Industrial museum.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Trains being cheaper and not a giant clustercuss.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2022?
‘Fashion Concept’ is an awfully strong word for ‘wore clothes’. I genuinely didn’t think about it, at all.
33. What kept you sane?
I guess ‘Rob’ is usually a good answer? I didn’t seem to be fighting for sanity as hard this year, which is good.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Nah. Not this year.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
I am to be kept away from all abortion discourse. I also have OPINIONS on trickledown economics and those who love them.
36. Who did you miss?
I miss my family, but I also wish I had more time off so that I could spend weekends with everyone and not be too tired to brain thinkily the next week.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
We have a steady trickle of people coming through the team at work, and they are all very lovely. My new placement manager is a mensch and I am really grateful for his help.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2022:
It’s good to be professional, because it makes it much easier and nicer for teams to work together. It’s also good to be bursting with personality and silliness, because it makes connections and shows humanity. It’s just mixing the two that is difficult.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
We don’t talk about Bruno.
