Meme of the Year 2024
Dec. 26th, 2024 10:00 pm Sorry I'm not a better friend, sorry I'm not a more interesting follow, but hey, that's old age. I started this when I was 17, I'm nearly 39 now. Time moves on.

Meme of the Year 2024
1. What did you do in 2024 that you'd never done before?
I went to a Challenge Arcade? I went to Immersive Theatre? Mr Chris does think of awesome things to do.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn’t- work ate my brain, and this year time of year is a really bad time to start anything. I don’t think I will do any for this year, but I am going to try to get some exercise.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not this year!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Fortunately not. Good work, guys! Keep it up!
5. What countries did you visit?
Switzerland! We went to Geneva and had an amazing time. We generally tend to travel in country due to avoiding stress, but I went and joined Rob at the end of one of his work trips for some sight seeings. The rest of our travels were Cornwall, I did some little Scotland bits, and we did a mini-break in Dorset.
6. What would you like to have in 2025 that you lacked in 2024?
A new job! I’ve learned a lot, I’m constantly learning a lot in this job, but I’m kind of ready to take that and go to a new place and learn more. Moving jobs is always risky, but I’ve been lucky so far and I hope I’ll be lucky again.
I’d also quite like to get somewhere near the top of the waiting list for an ADHD assessment. (Been waiting since 2021).
7. What date from 2024 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Dunno? It doesn’t feel like a big year for dates. I don’t think I’m always going to remember any of them. I mean, I legit forgot that the UK election was this year, but 4th July is a memorable date? Genuinely, just a year of days.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Oooh, hard to say. This year has been challenging but not achieving. I think I generally just pootled through it and got out the other end. That may have to be achievement enough.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Reaching out to people, I think. For years I wondered why Rob didn’t just email/text his friends more, and now I know. Because I took for granted having a job that gave you brain space during the day. Like, not all of it, but over the course of a week, there’d be jobs where I could just, disengage brain and do them. Being constantly in meetings, constantly dealing with things and people- it all leaves me with relatively little left in the tank at the end of the day.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had one really nasty illness that struck when I was at my sister’s house and I had to get rescued by her and my parents. It was a cold that then became sickness and it took me the best part of a week to recover.
The rest is just chronic stuff at this point!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A late runner in the year, but a laptop riser, keyboard and bluetooth mouse. I moved office buildings again and the swanky new office is tragically low on desks with monitors and mice, and I am tragically crap at deciding when I am going into the office in advance enough to book them. Having these things means I can use one of the other desks comfortably.
Otherwise- tickets to see Frozen on the West End. My parents and I kidnapped my niece and took her to London for the weekend and it was really lovely. We took her to museums and to see Frozen. She still talks about it and asks when she can go back. It was an amazing production and one of my favourite weekends of the year.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Rob! For soppy reasons completely unrelated to the fact that he is literally superhumanly good at things. And unrelated to the fact that he feeds me. (Cooking being one of those things he’s superhumanly good at.)
I do want to big up the Chris for finding such amazing good fun things to do with such amazing good fun people.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
There is an obvious answer here and I want you to know, I moved past ‘appalled’ very quickly, and landed in depressed because… well, the first time you didn’t know what you were getting, America, but this time? This time? You knew.
14. Where did most of your money go?
My travel! The rest on my adventures.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Geneva adventures! Our June Cornwall trip! Carrie’s visit to the UK and going to Phantom Peak with her.
16. What song will always remind you of 2024?
My top five songs on Spotify were all from ‘Tortured Poets Department’ because I am basic like that.
That said, the song of the year is likely ‘I’ve No More Fucks to Give’ by Thomas Wild Esq. (We saw him live and he did a good show!)
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Happier. A year of relative stability has done for it.
ii. thinner or fatter?
About the same, but noticeably less fit.
iii. richer or poorer?
Richer, but not significantly.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Planning! Exercising! Writing!
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sleeping. I can’t help it, I’m always tired, but it gets in the way of life.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Quiet one in Brighton with Rob’s family. (I am so so full.)
21. Did you fall in love in 2024?
I have a Rob.
22. What was the best thing you made?
I was ridiculously proud of my idea to block a hat on the stool in a Premier Inn room? (It was acrylic, so it could be done with just steam from an iron.)
I made some bed socks for my niece based on a design that she drew.
23. What was your favourite TV program?
The two shows that have been hyper fixations for me this year were ‘Psych’ and ‘Interview With the Vampire’. The former had a ‘Clue’ themed episode that delighted me greatly and made me lament that we don’t get 22 episode series anymore.
IWTV is just so good- it removes the ostentatiously problematic bits from the book but manages to keep and introduce enough tension to make it interesting and fun. It’s amazingly acted and I love it. Can’t wait for the third season when they start the ‘Vampire Lestat’ stuff.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
This is the most teenage coded question and it is on thin ice. I don’t imagine I’ll ever hate anyone personally that I’d call out in an End of Year Meme. You can probably guess what political figures I could hate, but it seems trite to call them out.
25. What was the best book you read?
‘Where The Dead Wait’ by the legendary Ally Wilkes. Polar Horror wherein one man learns why you should never trust a blond.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Rob found lots of new and unsigned bands this year which opened up a world of smaller, cheaper, very local gigs. This is great and generally means that the support is better as they have a lean and hungry look. My favourite was ‘Barbara’ the band and I’ve listened to their stuff a lot. ‘The Big Day’ are also amazing.
27. What did you want and get?
Honestly not sure - when is ‘new slippers’ the height of my wants? I don’t want much and I’m pretty good at getting stuff that I want.
28. What did you want and not get?
New house. We’ve been trying to move for years now and I just want to find somewhere so we can stop trying to move.
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
I’m not sure what I saw- I am pretty sure that the only film I saw in the cinema as ‘Inside Out 2’, and it was a good film.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 38! I ran a design workshop for my project. It just so happened to be the best date for it, so I made my mother bake for it and filled people with cake until they came up with proposals for how we could do what we were aiming for.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
America not doing The Thing.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2024?
Same as last year really- brown shoes, mens jumpers, either jeans or work trousers.
33. What kept you sane?
Rob, probably.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Nah, none of them really.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
I have the ADHD/Autistic thing where if there are rules, I think people should have to follow them and they should be uniformly applied. This vexes me. If you have laws, you have to apply them consistently to everyone.
36. Who did you miss?
I miss Alex and Lowell being in the UK.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
Constant stream of cool people coming and joining the programme at work. Also some cool dudes that are friends of Mr Christopher.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2024:
Ok, this shit project managey, but… look, are you actually doing Agile or are you just cutting waterfall into sprints?
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I strive, strive, strive, to get everything done
I've played by all the rules, but I've very rarely won
I've smiled, I've charmed, I've wooed and laughed, alas to no avail
I've run round like a moron, to unequivocally fail!
I've no more fucks left to give
My fuck fuse has just blown
I've been hunting for my fucks all day
But they've upped and fucked off home!
I've no more fucks to give
My fuck rations are depleted
I've rallied my fuck army but it's been fucking defeated!
The effort has just not been worth the time or the expense!
I've exhausted all my energy, for minimal recompense!
The distinct lack of acknowledgement has now begun to gall!
And I've come to realize that I don't give a fuck at all!
I've no more fucks to give
My fucks have flown away
My fucks are now so fucked up they've refused to fucking stay!
I've no more fucks to give
My fucks have gone insane
They've come back round and passed me while they're fucking off again!
I've no more fucks to give
My fucks have all dissolved
I've planned many projects, but my fucks won't be involved!
And that's me! I don't know how many years this has left in it. I genuinely forgot about it until fairly recently, but as long as I remember then I really have to carry on. Hit me up on Instagram for my most regularly checked form of social media. I have a Bluesky but I am not really using it. I am out of the social media habit.
